    Welcome to penandcape.com

Transmitted on Friday, May, 1st, 2009 in Welcome

Greetings, Internet Surfer, and welcome to PenandCape.com.  But what exactly IS penandcape.com you ask?  Well, that’s a long answer. But, since there is still much contention over whether or not Time is infinite, I’ll offer up the short version:

Essentially, PenandCape.com is a blog(ish) place designed to broadcast poetic and/or prose transmissions from the darkest (and sometimes brightest) nether regions of Jason Mott’s mind. But who is Jason Mott? He’s a poet and fiction writer who’s getting more than a little freaked out speaking about himself in the third person. So let’s make a small grammar shift, shall we?

    Ready?

    Okay, let’s start again:

My name is Jason Mott. (Yes…yes, Igor! That feels much, much better). I’m a writer living in North Carolina and I’m proud to say that I write a great deal of poetry that focuses on superheroes. I’m a fanboy (and proud of it!). Like some of you who may have come across this website, I grew up reading comic books. And, like others of you who may have come across this website, I grew up reading lots of classic literature and poetry.

I think most people, as they navigate their way through each new, tumultuous year of life, reach a point where they leave the “childish things” behind and march forward into very standard formatted (though still respectable) lives. And, sadly, comic books are often dumped into that “childish things” category.

As for me, as I moved forward into adulthood I actually found myself growing increasingly fond of my childhood heroes and, at the same time, I was expanding as a writer of both poetry and fiction.

These two passions culminated a few years ago as I navigated my way through the undergraduate Creative Writing program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. It was there, under the mentorship of a very talented, visionary and supportive faculty, that I fused my love of superheroes and writing and, well, as the cliché expression goes: things have never been the same.

But superheroes aren’t the only thing I write about, as you’ll see. I’m a country boy and I often times write country stories. I’m a living, breathing human being, so I sometimes write about humanity. I’m a son, brother and uncle, so I sometimes write about family. I’m a lover (on good nights) so I sometimes write about love. (In fact, I have a full-length poetry collection titled “We Call This Thing Between Us Love” that has just been published).

You’ll find all of those above interests here, along with lots of other news, events and happenings relating to the world of comic books, poetry, comic book poetry, love, family or, simply, life.

So, all in all, that’s the brief rundown of PenandCape.com, a blog(ish) website by Jason Mott (though designed and constructed by the talented Randy Skidmore over at subpardesign.com. If you’re loving the way this site looks as much as I am and want your site to look as good, then mosey on over to his saloon).

    Again, welcome.

And remember: if we let them, sometimes our dreams grow up with us.
